Nigeria’s Orji Uzor Kalu was in Sierra Leone few days ago. If you are thinking about any political-link, then you are wrong. The former Abia State governor was not in town on official but personal visit to the Ernest Koroma-led country.
For those who don’t know, Chief Kalu still has business interest in Sierra Leone. Though the Obasanjo administration in Nigeria succeeded in pushing Slok Air out of Nigeria before its eventual demise over a year ago, Orji Kalu still has firm control over a thriving bank in Sierra Leone.
Known previously as First International Bank FIB, the bank went through a face-lifting process last year…and truly, its face has changed. After Guaranty Trust Bank, FIB, now known as FiBank (as part of the rebranding process) is the oldest Nigeria-originated bank in Sierra Leone.
Worthy of note is the fact that Chief Kalu’s presence in Sierra Leone was publicised…unlike another former governor whose visits to this country of close to six million people is under the cloud of darkness. Despite this moustached-governor’s investments in this country, his visits are always in the dark.
…God bless Nigeria!
